Mrs Brown’s Boys star Fiona O’Carroll has confirmed the show will return for the first time in nearly 10 years.

The BBC show has been off screens for nearly ten years and will be making a comeback this year even after fans have begged for it not to return.

At the start of the year, viewers begged the BBC to “cancel” Mrs Brown’s Boys as they tuned in to the New Year’s Day episode.

“Literally the worst show ever – cancel it,” one person said.

While another, referencing covid, said: “Sooner catch Happy New Year’s Omicron than watch Mrs Brown’s Boys!”

A third said: “2022 was going so well but Mrs Brown’s Boys has just come on!”

Previously, Fiona spoke about how the team were struggling to get the show off the ground.

She said: “Well, you know what this industry is like. There is lots of talk and lots of talk and until it is happening you will never really know.”

The actress continued: “We were supposed to be doing a mini series this year but, unfortunately, due to various different reasons it didn’t happen. So, there is talk of it happening next year, a possible mini series.”

Speaking to Ireland AM about the struggles, Fiona went on: “It’s not just down to us, it’s down to studio time, it’s down to crew and it’s down to cast. With Covid, it was a massively turbulent time.

“There is a huge backlog and all artists and productions are fighting for time and space.”

In June the Mrs Brown’s Boys creator Brendan O’Carroll admitted that he missed Gary Hollywood after his shocking exit from the show.

Talking about Gary’s departure the comedian who plays the Brown family matriarch admitted he is missed after working together for over 20 years.

Brendan said: “He was a great actor and we miss him.

“He used to call me father. He was part of the family and we haven’t spoken since and haven’t heard a word from him since.”

Gary quit the show in 2020 after a row over wages claiming he was paid less than his co-stars.
