An MTV star has formally apologised for pouring lighter fluid on his pal and setting him alight at a barbecue.
Cameron Fox, from Wakefield, found himself in the spotlight on MTV’s new show Sorry Babe – in which people are invited to ask forgiveness from people they wronged in the past.
An official casting call for the show read: “Do you have some explaining to do? Are you ready to be forgiven? Well it’s time to say #SorryBabe.
“Whether it’s a past lover, scorned family member or drunken mistake – confess all and finally gain closure!”
And Cameron, 25, was one of the new line-up, faced with his friend Jon who he had set on fire when they got together for a barbecue one summer.
Jon’s knees and trousers caught fire before Cameron – nicknamed The Clown of Wakefield – attempted to douse the flames with orange juice.
Speaking to YorkshireLive about his experience, he explained: “We were all singing and dancing, had a few lagers, and we were near the fire and me being daft I’d sprayed lighter fluid on Jon and he accidentally set on fire.
“He was not happy about it.”
The pair lost contact soon afterwards, but managed to save their friendship on the new programme.
On the show, Jon confronted Cameron to say: “I can’t believe that you don’t know why I’m here. Think what you’ve done recently. What hurt me, or could’ve hurt me.”
“Is it from that time when I set you on fire?” a grinning Cameron asked.
Jon wasn’t laughing as he said: “Yeah it is that, mate. You set me on fire. You could’ve killed me, man, playing about with lighter fluid next to a barbecue? Not good mate, not good.”
“There weren’t anything intentional about it,” Cameron responded. “It was just one of them messy nights, my friend. From the bottom of my heart, we were all just having a bit of fun and things got out of hand.”
Jon wasn’t the only one Cameron apologised to, as he also came face-to-face with his dad Mark for borrowing money, and his other pals for stealing their takeaway while on a date.
He had scrounged money from his dad for an arm tattoo – but ended up using it for an inking over his face and neck instead.
The youngster was originally kept in the dark about who he’d have to face the music with, dubbing his first foray into TV an “interesting experience” after letting the “demons in his closet” free.
It seems Cameron has his sights set on a career in television after his MTV appearance, telling the publication: “I am also looking to venture onto more shows and hopefully people will be seeing my face more on television.”
And he has no intention of letting up on the practical jokes, as he added: “I’ve learned my lesson but I’m going to stick with who I am.”
