Naga Munchetty apologises and says she's been tested after BBC co-star frets over health

BBC Breakfast host Naga Munchetty was forced to apologise after her co-host Jon Kay was left fretting for her health.

Jon stepped in once more to replace regular presenter Charlie Stayt on the BBC morning programme as a temporary host, and was chatting about the issues of the day with Naga when things got a little shaky.

Naga couldn’t help interrupting proceedings with a sneeze.

But she quickly apologised for the disruption, telling Jon and viewers at home, insisting: “Sorry! I’ve been tested.”

“Bless you!” Jon quickly responded, as Naga said: “I had a lateral flow [test] this morning.”

With Covid-19 related concerns already raised in Jon’s mind, things were a little shaky from there on out as he said: “Good! Erm, I’ve got masks, but that would not be a good look.”

Naga then apologised once more, telling him: “Sorry, excuse me.”

And a worried Jon then asked her: “Are you all right?”

When he got the nod from Naga, it was all smiles and a return to professionalism, as he announced: “Carry on!” and the pair went on to flick through the day’s newspapers.

But fans at home clearly shared his concerns, as one social media user pointed out on Twitter: “A sneeze from Naga Munchetty on @bbcbreakfast!”

It comes shortly after Naga explained how she was “clenching” from a hospital bed on Thursday in a trembling video posted to her Instagram account, with fans rushing to support her.

The 45-year-old presenter was praised for “saving lives” by her loyal legion of fans, as she donated blood despite being visibly shaken.

Captioning the post, Naga explained: “Just done this @givebloodnhs with one of favourite blood takers @willflanders and a record time for me of 5 mins 21 secs for approx 0.5l Woo hoo!”

But she admitted it was necessary to “clench” her buttocks to get through the blood draw.

In the clip, Naga could be heard saying: “Hello, it is that time again – buttock clenching, leg raising, arm squeezing… giving blood today.

“I reckon I will be, what, six minutes? Seven minutes?” she then asked a medical professional beside her.

The star said: “I am now with Ross who is now used to my skinny veins and makes it absolutely painless.

“I will be up and about after this with my day. So just know, if you want to give blood, you are doing a great thing.”

BBC Breakfast airs daily from 6am on BBC One.
