Paul O’Grady ignores contract and adopts another pooch from Battersea dogs home

Pet lovers up and down the country regularly tune into his adorable ITV adoption show at Battersea Cats & Dogs Home each week.

And now Paul O’Grady has welcomed another furry friend into his family after he announced that he’s adopted another dog from the popular rescue centre.

It comes after the Paul O’Grady: For The Love of Dogs star previously stated that he was contractually obliged not to adopt any more furry friends while producing the show.

But the 66 year old threw caution to the wind after he took home his new dog Sausage who he described as the “friendliest dog in world” and welcomed him to his household of dogs.

The proud dog-dad – who is the ambassador for Battersea – met the wire-haired Dachshund while he was filming his latest series of the show which has had viewers glued to their screens for more than 10 years.

And viewers watched the silver fox fall helplessly in love with the pup during the ninth episode of the series earlier this week, as the animal lover snuck the four-legged friend home despite his contractual obligations.

As the new addition settles into his lavish life with the star’s four other dogs Nancy, Arfur, Conchita and Eddie, Paul announced his new companion to his 617,000 Instagram followers alongside a sweet snap cuddling Sausage in his arms.

It is understood that Sausage is a stray who is believed to be from Poland who doesn’t understand English except for the word “biscuit”.

He wrote: “In tonight’s episode I take this hairy little monster home. She’s called Sausage which isn’t very original but it doesn’t matter as she can’t understand a word of English except for ‘biscuit’.”

He happily confirmed that the new addition has been welcomed into the household with open arms by the other dogs except for one.

He continued: “She gets on with all the other dogs except for Conchita who simply ignores her but Nancy loves her and together they’re a right pair of hooligans.”

“So far Sausage has eaten her way through a couple of dog beds, an armchair, endless pairs of socks and shoes and the stair carpet but she’s the friendliest dog on the planet so what’s a pair of shoes between friends? @battersea @pogdogsfood @realpogdogs.”

The Cheshire native opened up about the clause in his contract back in 2012, which is understood to prohibit the star from taking any dogs home from the centre while he is filming the beloved series.

According to the Standard, he said that “under no circumstances” was he allowed to adopt any more animals from the London rehoming centre.

He told the publication: “It went in my contract under no circumstances was I allowed to go home with anything: two-legged, four-legged, three-legged, anything.”
