Peaky Blinders final series first look trailer drops as Stephen Graham joins BBC series

The dramatic trailer for the final series of popular BBC drama Peaky Blinders has been released, with stars including Stephen Graham joining the cast.

The trailer opens with Thomas Shelby firing a gun, before a montage of scenes cuts to the character saying “You have a very powerful enemy.”

The camera then cuts to actor Stephen Graham sitting at a table, before Tommy can be heard saying “This will be the end of this.”

The filming of the final series had previously been postponed due to the pandemic, with Time and Line of Duty actor Stephen Graham previously telling the Pound for Pound podcast at the time, “I was supposed to be starting Peaky Blinders but that has been put on hold indefinitely.”

However, fans will finally get to see the actor in the new series and while it is not known who Stephen will play, or whether Tommy’s statement was aimed directly at the character, the trailer has promised plenty of drama and action in store for viewers when it airs in 2022.

The trailer shows a series of clips from the upcoming series, featuring regular cast members including Paul Anderson as Arthur Shelby and Sophie Rundle as Ada Shelby.

Ada can be heard saying, “Take a good look Tommy. Because one of us isn’t going to be here for long,” as a clip shows Tommy hugging Arthur.

The tense trailer also shows the return of Michael Gray, played by Finn Cole, alongside his wife Gina Gray, played by Hollywood actress Anya Taylor-Joy.

In one scene, Michael can be seen returning on a boat to England, before standing in front of a burning steam train.

Other dramatic scenes include The Peaky Blinders walking side by side with one another, along with a montage of brawls and Tommy running out of his house with his family, as well as the return of Sam Clafin’s politician Oswald Mosley.

However, one of the most notable absences from the new trailer was fan favourite Aunt Polly, following the death of actress Helen McCrory from cancer in 2021.

Thomas Shelby actor Cillian Murphy told The Guardian that Helen was “the heart of that show” and that “it was hard to make it without her.”

He said: “There was this huge absence on the set. We all felt it. She died while we were shooting.

“She was too young. You can’t help but think of all the amazing roles she would have had.”

Fans have eagerly been awaiting the release of a full trailer, but in November 2021, director Anthony Byrne dropped a small teaser of the final series on social media, with the caption “We’re coming for you sooner than you think…by order of…”

One month later, fans were also delighted when a second 10 second clip revealed that Tom Hardy’s character Alfie was returning after many thought he had been killed in series four.

The clip showed Tommy Shelby turning to the character, saying “Alfie, I think I may have written your final act.”

What this all means for the Shelby family, viewers do not know, but they will not have long to wait as the series is expected to air in early 2022.
