Piers Morgan demands 'disingenuous' Matt Hancock resign amid I'm A Celeb backlash

Piers Morgan has slammed Matt Hancock as “disingenuous” and called for him to resign ahead of his controversial I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! appearance.

The Tory MP and former health secretary, 44, received a tidal wave of backlash after it was confirmed he would join a number of celebrities heading into the jungle this year.

Matt touched down in Australia on Tuesday (November 1) and recently penned an editorial explaining his jungle stint.

Writing in The Sun, Matt described appearing on the ITV reality series as an “honest and unfiltered” way to “communicate with the electorate”.

Matt also said he hoped to “raise the profile of his dyslexia campaign” and “help the public better understand the condition” while in the jungle.

Piers, however, wasn’t buying it.

Replying to Matt’s article on Twitter, the Talk TV broadcaster, 57, slammed his reasoning as “disingenuous horse-sh*t” and claimed Matt was really doing the series “for the money” while also neglecting his constituency.

He also called for Matt to “resign immediately”.

Piers wrote: “What a load of disingenuous horse-sh*t… of course you’re doing it for the money, at a time when you should be doing your job as an MP during a terrible financial crisis, helping your constituents and voting in Parliament.

“You should resign immediately.”

Following the announcement that Matt would be joining the 2022 I’m a Celeb line-up, the politician had his Tory whip removed “with immediate effect”.

Piers also addressed Matt’s I’m a Celeb stint on his evening Talk TV series Piers Morgan Uncensored.

Describing Matt as a “failed politician” and “attention seeking perma-grinning goffer of a man”, Piers criticised Matt’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic as “absolute nonsense”.

He also condemned his lockdown-breaking office smooch and affair with his married advisor Gina Colangelo.

Piers added: “I’m actually glad you’re going to a remote, tarantula-infested jungle on the opposite side of the world.

“On behalf of the entire British public… I think I’m safe in saying, I hope you stay there.”
