Piers Morgan has leapt to the defence of Sir Paul McCartney after complaints were made about the former Beatle’s headline set at Glastonbury on Saturday evening.
The legendary musician, who turned 80 over the weekend, played a two-and-a-half hour spectacular, including guest appearances by Foo Fighters and Nirvana star Dave Grohl and ‘The Boss’ himself Bruce Springsteen.
Macca went through large portions of his extensive back catalogue, with hits by Wings mixed in between some of his newer solo music and some classics by The Beatles.

But there were a few people, particularly on Twitter, upset that he didn’t do more Beatles songs during his set.
This drew the attention of Piers, who fired back at the critics in his usual style, writing: “Twitter’s moaning Macca ‘didn’t do enough Beatles hits.’ He played Can’t Buy Me Love, Love Me Do, I Saw Her Standing There, Lady Madonna, Blackbird, Get Back, Something, Let It Be, and Hey Jude.
“Those songs alone are 9 of the greatest pop songs ever.
“Twitter.. STFU.”#
Piers’ nemesis Dan Walker also praised Sir Paul’s set, gushing on Twitter: “The fact that Sir Paul McCartney is doing this at 80 is impressive & he’s earned the right to do whatever he likes but, if he doesn’t smash out HEY JUDE then it’s a massive opportunity missed #Glastonbury2022.”
Though Sir Paul didn’t bring out Ringo Starr, we did get a Beatles reunion at one point – kind of.
During Paul’s performance of I’ve Got A Feeling, he reunited for a virtual performance with John Lennon, 42 years after he was brutally murdered in New York.
The Liverpudlian told the crowd: “I’ve got a special little thing here, one day, Peter Jackson rings me up and says he can take John’s vocals and isolate them so that you can play live with John on tour, he said do you fancy that?”
Following the emotional performance, he added: “That’s so special for me man, I know it’s virtual but come on – it’s John, we’re back together.”
