Piers Morgan has said the Russian TV employee who crashed a live broadcast with an anti-war message is “the world’s bravest woman”.
Marina Ovsyannikova, who works at Channel One, walked onto the set of the channel’s nightly news show shouting “no to war” and carrying a sign saying: “Don’t believe the propaganda. They’re lying to you here.”
She apparently also made an anti-war video and, according to the BBC, she was later fined 30,000 rouble (£214) in relation to that, before being released.
Former Good Morning Britain presenter Piers has shared a screengrab on Instagram of the moment that Marina stormed onto the set.
“The world’s bravest woman,” he wrote.
“During the ‘Vremya’ news programme on Russia’s main state TV channel, Maria Ovsyannikova, a Channel One employee, rushed in front of the camera with a poster saying ‘Stop the war, don’t believe the propaganda.’
“She knew the risk she was taking, and the likely punishment. What an absolute heroine.”
“Such unbelievable courage,” added the presenter.
Plenty of Piers’ followers chimed in to say how brave they thought the woman was.
One called her “a shining light”, while others said she was “incredible”.
A couple said they would like to see Piers interview her one day.
The broadcaster quit GMB last year amid the Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle row but has a new show coming.
The star has said he wants Piers Morgan Uncensored to be a platform for “lively vigorous debate, news-making interviews, and that increasingly taboo three-letter word: fun”.
Piers who has been outspoken about “woke” culture in the past, has also said he wants his programme to “cancel the cancel culture which has infected societies around the world”.
