Piers Morgan slams 'spoiled brat' Prince Harry for missing Prince Philip memorial

Piers Morgan has hit out at “shameful” Prince Harry who is not attending the memorial service for his late grandfather, Prince Philip.

Harry and his wife Meghan Markle will not be attending the event as they are “unable to return to his home” as it is too dangerous for the Sussexes following an incident in July 2021 when the Duke was chased by hoards of paparazzi upon his return to the country.

The couple lost their right to protection from the Met Police after stepping down as senior working royals in January 2020.

Instead, Harry and Meghan have remained in California with their two children while members of the British Royal Family descend on Westminster Abbey to honour the late Duke of Edinburgh.

In a scathing attack, Piers said: “Imagine missing your mentor grandfather’s memorial service because you’re such a spoiled brat you’d rather sulk in your Californian mansion than be there to support your grandmother? Shameful.”

A statement released on behalf of Harry read: “A spokesperson for the Sussexes confirms that Prince Harry will not be returning to the UK for the Service of Thanksgiving for the life of Prince Philip on March 29.

“He does, however, hope to visit the Queen as soon as possible.”

Members of the extended royal family, including Lady Sarah Chatto, her sons Arthur and Sam, Zenouska Mowatt, Lady Amelia Windsor Helen Taylor, Flora Ogilvy and her brother all joined The Queen, Prince Charles, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, Prince William, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, Prince Edward and Sophie, Countess of Wessex Westminster Abbey.

Harry is currently involved in a battle with the Home Office over his right to protection from specialist police officers from The Met, due to his claim to the throne.

A spokesperson for the Duke said: “Prince Harry inherited a security risk at birth, for life.

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex personally fund a private security team for their family, yet that security cannot replicate the necessary police protection needed whilst in the UK. In the absence of such protection, Prince Harry and his family are unable to return to his home.”

He previously returned to the UK for his grandfather’s funeral on April 17 alongside members of his family while Meghan chose to stay in their Montecito home.

It’s believed that Prince Philip took his final photograph with Harry two years before his passing following the birth of Harry’s firstborn, Archie-Harrison.

Harry and Meghan were joined by the Duke of Edinburgh, the Queen and Meghan’s mum, Doria Ragland, as they proudly gazed at the newborn baby in Windsor Castle.
