Primal Scream's Bobby Gillespie thought he was having sex with badger after getting high

Rocker Bobby Gillespie recalled the time he once got so high on drugs he thought he was having sex with a badger.

The Primal Scream frontman was on a mind-bending acid trip when his girlfriend morphed into the animal.

Bobby, 59, said he and his ex Karen Parker would buy LSD at their favourite boozer The Griffin when he was growing up in Glasgow.

He revealed: “One night Karen and I came back to my house after scoring acid at The Griffin. We were in bed and during sex she turned into a badger-like creature, her true feral sexuality revealed to me.

“One of the things that I loved about drugs was how they break down the day-to-day defences that people erect to protect themselves – all inhibitions are scattered on the winds of lust.”

The singer said that in the Eighties he and his pals pumped themselves full of acid in a bid to get spaced out like their music icons.

Bobby explained: “The summer of 1984 we were tripping all the time. We wanted to be like our psychedelic heroes – Jim Morrison, Lux Interior, Roky Erickson, Syd Barrett, Arthur Lee.

“We just felt, well, if we’re gonna play psychedelic music, we need to take psychedelic drugs otherwise you can’t be psychedelic. You need to take the trip and experience it.

“I honestly thought it was going to help me write songs. Obviously you can’t write anything when you’re on f***ing acid. You’re too bombed.”

He adds in his new book Tenement Kid: “My times with Karen were golden. Love is a strange thing.”

Following the release of his book, Bobby told iNews that he stopped taking hard drugs and alcohol 13 years ago.

He added: “I did quite a bit of therapy, and I think that may have helped me reveal myself and write about emotional vulnerability.”

In the book, he explained further on his wild experiences while opening up about his challenges as a child and the setting of his family home.

In his 20s, Bobby found fame as he became the lead singer and founding member of Primal Scream in 1982.
