Prince William and Kate Middleton to host their own BBC Radio 1 Newsbeat show

Prince William and Kate Middleton have revealed they will host their own BBC Radio 1 Newsbeat special.

The couple appeared on Monday’s episode (October 10) of Newsbeat and confirmed they’d recorded a special programme in honour of World Mental Health Day.

Revealing their hopes to “have a meaningful conversation about mental health”, Kate, 40, teased that Newsbeat “will sound slightly different” with both Royals on board.

The Prince and Princess of Wales will interview four guests on the programme, who will all discuss their own mental health experiences.

One guest, a mental health advocate, recently worked with EastEnders on its poignant schizophrenia storyline.

While explaining their Newsbeat takeover, William, 40, said the couple will discuss mental health stigma, as well as the negative impacts social media use can have on young people’s mental wellbeing.

The prince also confirmed they will talk about coping skills and resources to help alleviate the causes and symptoms of mental health conditions including anxiety and depression.

William said: “As part of World Mental Health Day, Catherine and I have recorded a special programme taking over the radio to talk about the importance of mental health.

“You could be living one life one minute and something massively changes and you realise you don’t necessarily have the tools or the experience to be able to tackle that.”

Kate added: “The first step for all of us is to keep having those conversations and keep reaching out for help.”

William and Kate have long been mental health advocates.

In 2016, they launched Heads Together alongside Prince Harry.

The UK-based initiative combines the expertise and resources of eight mental health charities, with raised money going towards a series of innovative new mental health services.
