American rapper Goonew has tragically died aged 24.
The rapper’s mother has revealed that her son received a gun wound to the back and claimed jewelry was stolen from the star.
Goonew, whose real name is Markelle Morrow was found with gunshot wounds just before 6pm on Friday night by police officers, in a parking lot in the District Heights area.
Speaking about the tragic incident Goonew’s mother Patrice Morrow told WUSA 9 that her son had a “heart bigger than his body”.
Surrounded by her grieving daughters, she told the news channel: “All he wanted to do is try to get his family out the hood.
“He had a heart bigger than his body, when they took him, they took me.”
The family also confirmed that Goonew was fatally shot in the back and some of his belongings were stolen.
Sharing details on this, Goonew’s mother added: “They took his chain. They took his watch.
“He gave it up and they still shot him in his back.”
Since the tragic killing took place, the Prince George Police Department has confirmed the suspect is still at large.
Goonew’s mother also told the press that her son was on his way to give his sister a present for her birthday when he was killed.
However, despite losing her child, Patrice told her son’s killers: “I forgive you.”
She added: “They took my son, hope they got what they wanted.”
Rapper Goonew rose to fame when he released a joint tape, Homicide Boat, with rapper Lil Dude.
The popular tape drew the attention of Lil Yatchy, who then later colloborated with Goonew which helped to propel him to international stardom.
In July 2018, Goonew released his album named Bug 64, which included 11 incredible songs to his name.
Since the news of his passing broke, fans have flooded social media to share their condolences.
Taking to Twitter, one person penned: “Rest In Paradise @1Goonew.”
Another also said: “Goonew the only person ik who slid on the Moesha beat rip.”
“RIP Goonew one of my favorite artists!” A third exclaimed.
