Rylan admits his book was ‘difficult’ to write as he reflects on marriage breakdown

TV host Rylan Clark has revealed he struggled to write his new memoir as he reflects on the tragic breakdown of his marriage.

The former X Factor star, 33, appeared on BBC’s The One Show where he opened up on the difficulties of penning the new book, titled, Ten – The Decade That Changed My Future, which reveals details of his divorce and mental breakdown in candid detail.

He said: “Last year was awful. It was really difficult writing what I had to write and sort of revisiting a time that I never thought would cross my mind or be part of my life but it did. But that chapter was really difficult.”

He admitted that he removed certain things from the book for legal reasons but also because he feared revealing certain details would cause him too much distress.

“I got so ill last year that I don’t need to do that.

“It was harder writing about it than actually living in it which is quite strange.

“I started writing the book before my marriage ended so it became a different book.”

Rylan has made no secret of the frightening extent of the breakdown he suffered amid his divorce from his husband of six years, Dan Neal.

Clark and Neal got married in 2015, and last July the It Takes Two presenter announced that the pair had separated on Instagram.

Rylan said he had been unfaithful to Dan “years ago” but only decided to tell his partner in May 2021, causing their marriage to break down.

The situation was so difficult for Rylan that he said he no longer wanted to be alive and subsequently tried to end his own life.

During his An Evening With Rylan Clark event at London Royal Festival Hall, Clark told the audience he’d suffered two heart failures amid the breakdown of his marriage.

“It was like my body had shut down. Twice last year I ended up back in an ambulance because my heart had failed and it was really strange because I just remember for a couple of weeks going, ‘My heart hurts’,” the former Big Brother presenter said.

Speaking at his An Evening With Rylan he said he hasn’t seen Dan since they separated, despite asking him to come home.
