Sam Fender emotional at Glastonbury after fans roar his lyrics back at him

Sam Fender was left emotional during his Glastonbury festival debut after he heard his lyrics roared back at him from the crowd.

The 28-year-old, from North Shields, took to the world famous Pyramid Stage on Friday night (June 24) for the first time during his career.

And it seems it was a resounding success, as he was seen on stage overcome with emotion as the crowd chanted his own lyrics back at him.

As the crowd, which was waving a range of flags including a rainbow Pride flag, sang, Sam was stunned to silence before saying: “Thank you Glastonbury!”

Sam made sure to give a nod to his hometown during his set, with his saxophone player wearing a Newcastle United football top.

The singer also drank from a bottle of Newcastle Brown Ale, and dedicated one of his songs to other Geordies watching him from the crowd.

Fans watching on the BBC at home were loving the performance, with one tweeting: “He is unbelievable in every way.”

Another said: “Just fantastic. Howay Sam!”

A third wrote: “He must be absolutely loving it. What a guy!”

Sam was the penultimate act on the Pyramid Stage on Friday night before headliner Billie Eilish performed.

The likes of Paul McCartney, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Haim, Kendrick Lamar, Lorde and Diana Ross are also due on the Pyramid Stage this weekend.

Elsewhere in the festival, attendees can enjoy music at Other Stage as well as others, or take in the sights the event has to offer.

That might include Glastonbury’s sexiest hidden nightclub, Meat Rack, where there’s a two-hour queue but seriously cheap entry for those who wait it out.

And fans who weren’t lucky enough to get tickets can tune in on the BBC.
