Simon Cowell has revealed he would be “petrified” if his son Eric were to perform on Britain’s Got Talent, after the ITV show was halted due to a horror scooter crash.
The inaugural episode of the new series saw four young boys aged between six and 10 take to the stage at the London Palladium to perform a series of scooter tricks involving towering ramps.
Scooter Boys’ routine, however, was drastically called to a halt after one member – Austin – fell from his scooter, forcing the intervention of medical staff.
Thankfully, he was soon deemed to be okay to continue his routine and returned to the stage to rapturous applause.
But that doesn’t quell Simon’s worries for his own son.
Speaking to Daily Star and other press, Simon revealed: “I’m like, ‘my god, what if that was Eric?’ It would be like ‘wow’… I would be petrified!'”
Fellow judge David Walliams agreed that having kids changes things from a judging capacity, as he spilled: “I think having kids definitely changes you. We didn’t have children when we joined the show, apart from Amanda, and I think it’s probably made us a bit more sensitive, hasn’t it?
“Especially when kids come on and perform – we are absolutely rooting for them thinking, ‘God, that could be our child up there!'”
Simon was quick to explain that Austin was fine despite the fall, as he said: “Obviously on the actual take it didn’t happen quite as quickly as it was shown in the episode.
“It wasn’t like, ‘He’s fallen, you’re alright, get back up again’ – there was a much longer gap, and we checked they were okay because when you do that kind of act you do fall over, even when you’re practicing, so I think he was used to it.”
He added: “We didn’t show it but we actually had a dog fall off the stage this year as well. You try and make sure that it’s safe and they have a lot of time to prepare but it did happen, but in this particular case – hats off to him!

“He was only a little boy, but he just wanted to finish the act – but if he’d really hurt himself we never would have carried on with that.”
Simon agreed on the show that he wouldn’t let Eric even watch the audition, as he said on the show: “It was fun. I am never letting Eric, my son, watch this audition though.”
Eric has, however, appeared on the programme before – but in a judging capacity, appearing in Simon’s lap during a round of auditions in 2017.
