Sir Rod Stewart swipes at Elvis Costello's hair loss in fiery Twitter feud

Sir Rod Stewart has sparked a furious Twitter feud with pop rival Elvis Costello, after his cruel comments hitting out at Rod’s Platinum Jubilee performance.

Elvis branded the performance “sh***” after Rod took to the stage to perform Sweet Caroline for the Queen.

He originally said: “The show was good, wasn’t it? Wasn’t it? No, it was sh***.

“I mean, I know you all love him and he’s one of yours and everything, but Rod. What the f***?

“I must say, listen, we all have bad nights vocally, but for f***’s sake, Sweet f***ing Caroline.”

He then said: “Are you f***ing kidding me? I mean I’ve been in showbusiness 45 years so I do know a thing or two.

“How is it that nobody suggested Rod sing ‘You Wear It Well?’”

And he since clarified his comments, as he said: “If you read my actual remark, it was about the wrong-headed idea of asking Sir Rod to pass up ‘You Wear It Well’ to lead a f***ing singalong!”

He added: “Have some damn respect. I was joking about the many uncomfortable choices that were overlooked.”

Now Sir Rod has decided to have his own say on the matter, as he hit out on Twitter: “Dear Elvis @elviscostello, yes my voice was rough cos of Covid.

“I apologise, I thought it better to make an appearance rather than let everyone down so sorry.

“By the way, where’s your hair gone mate?? Sir Rod.”

Rod’s fans soon came to the singer’s defence, but some were left divided as one advised: “Mate, I’d sit any bald jokes out tbh.”

Another added: “Rod, no need to explain or apologise. You did the business.”

As someone else said: “We loved it, me and my kids danced to it also!”

“@rodstewart you never just make an appearance! Your talent and showmanship are always 100 percent. I’ve seen your Vegas show 85 times and I’ve never once been disappointed!” another fan cheered.

Rod insisted that the BBC “made” him perform Sweet Caroline, as he told the audience: “The BBC made me sing this one!”

He encouraged them to “join in, make it comfortable for me” before launching into the chorus.
