Stacey Dooley reveals three simple things that help keep positive mental health

Stacey Dooley has revealed some special rituals that regularly boosts her mental health – and they include shopping, escapism and dancing in her kitchen.

The BBC star, 34, won the sixteenth series of Strictly Come Dancing in 2018 with her dance partner Kevin Clifton, who is now her boyfriend.

However, it seems she hasn’t forgotten all of those dazzling dancing skills that won her the glitterball trophy just yet, because she enjoys partying it up in her kitchen on a regular basis.

The documentary maker spoke candidly about her mental health to BBC hosts Dan Walker and Sally Nugent on Monday’s BBC Breakfast (February 7).

When Sally Nugent asked Stacey how she maintains her own mental health, Stacey said that kitchenn dancing, shopping and escapism are huge mood-boosters for her.

She replied: “I really indulge in escapism. I think that’s massively important.

“Sometimes there’s a tendency to think ‘Oh you know, do I make serious documentaries, or do I write serious books’.

“Actually we were just saying before I came on, dancing about the kitchen, music, nonsense, shopping, all of that jazz, you need it.”

In a nod to Sophie-Ellis-Bextor, Sally remarked:” Kitchen disco…”, which made Stacey giggle as she said:” Yeah, kitchen disco!”

It comes as Stacey has released her new mental health book, Are You Really OK?, which looks at mental health in young people.

Dooley is no stranger to mental health projects, because she’s made documentaries on the matter, including Back on the Psych Ward as part of her Investigates series.

She also starred in a BBC show called Celebrities on the NHS Front-line – to mark the 70th birthday of the NHS.

Dooley won Strictly in 2018, and has been in a relationship with Kevin since early 2019.
