He recalled being “blown away” after seeing his uncle in Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope as a child, saying: “I remember standing outside the school, I was five or six, with my brother and my mom and dad picked me up and they were taking us to the big city to watch the movie that my uncle Denis was in.
“Then we sat down and it was Star Wars and it just sort of blew our minds away.
“He played a character called Wedge and he survives all three of the original Star Wars movies.”
Along with playing Wedge Antilles, Denis is also a TV legend and has appeared in a number of hit series throughout the years including Death In Paradise, Just William and Jekyll.
He also played Tom Campbell-Gore in the beloved BBC hospital drama Holby City.
Speaking about his uncle, who has recently starred in a touring production of musical Anything Goes, Ewan also declared that Denis was his “acting hero.”
“He’s a real song and dance man, my uncle Denis. He will always be my acting hero. If I ever got stuck at work, he’s the only person I would ever phone and ask acting advice from.”
