Sheridan Smith had to wipe away tears as a Frankie – a Billie Eilish lookalike – took to the stage to perform on the final of the talent scout ITV hit programme Starstruck.
The 40-year-old TV and Westend star wrestled with her emotions as she watched the final from the judges table alongside her co-star’s Adam Lambert, Beverley Knight and Jason Manford.
It isn’t unusual for Sheridan to moved by many of the singers who have performed on the show and comedian Jason had certainly picked up on it as he landed an hilarious swipe.
Turning to his co-star as the young Billie Eilish act left the stage, he said: “That was the closest I’d come to doing a Sheridan.”
Fortunately, Sheridan saw the funny side of things declaring that she was “always crying”.
Later on in the programme, Sheridan found herself emotional for a second time as she became choked after mum-of-one Keeley transformed into Barbara Striesand.
She blew the judges away with her powerful vocal range, leaving Sheridan sobbing as she mentioned Keeley’s daughter Willow – who was watching in the audience.
In spite of a number of incredible acts on the programme in was Rachel who channelled pop icon Cher who took to winners crown and the £50,000 prize fund.
While many fans were delighted that Rachel had swooped up the win, other online users complained about the result.
One tweet read: “Tina or Barbara should’ve won for me great show @JasonManford #Starstruck.”
Another agreed: “Barbara was robbed! #Starstruck.”
A third grumbled: “#starstruck on @ITV what a waste of time… the winner was SO miming, they even said she wasn’t… terrible – should be ‘struck off’ not starstruck!! Terrible programme big for @ITV #Starstruck.”
“Tina Turner owned that stage tonight. She was my winner by a mile and I’m the biggest Queen Fan I know #Starstruck,” chimed in a fourth person.
