Strictly's Claudia Winkleman says she's 'fired' after secret leaks lead to slip up

Claudia Winkleman has joked that she’s been “fired” by the BBC from hosting Strictly Come Dancing after accidentally slipping up while on The One Show.

The 50-year-old, alongside Tess Daly, presents the celebrity dancing competition every September and will do so again when the 2022 series kicks off later this year.

And though Claudia and Tess will remain familiar faces, the show will look a little bit different when it returns to our screens this autumn.

That’s because three household names have departed the show in the time off the air. First, we learned that Bruno Tonioli would be leaving the judging panel permanently, having missed the last two series.

Then, pro dancers Oti Mabuse and Aljaž Škorjanec confirmed they would be departing as well. Claudia was asked about the show during her appearance on The One Show earlier this week.

“They don’t tell me anything,” she told hosts Alex Jones and Gethin Jones.

“They tell me after they tell Tess and the press because I’m leaky.”

She was asked by Gethin: “We’ll have some new faces though, won’t we? With Oti and Aljaz leaving, we’re going to have some new pro dancers?”

Claudia replied: “There are going to be, I think, some new -” before she stopped herself talking. She added: “I’m not sure I’m allowed to say that. Maybe I won’t. I’ve just been fired. My phone just buzzed! But yeah, there might be a few new pro dancers.”

After quitting Strictly, Aljaz is planning a move into acting.

He told the Daily Star: “Dancing in acting without any script. You are telling a story through movement. So I would love to do some acting.

“Hopefully I’ll get to do films. That industry is something that has always intrigued me a lot, so I would love to do that.”

Aljaz is also up for starring in one of TV’s soaps.

Aljaz starred on Strictly for nine years and became one of its most popular pro dancers.

Now he hopes that fame will help him make it as an actor.

He said: “I am looking forward to the future. I want to do something different and new. Strictly has given me an amazing platform and I want to use it well.”
