Strictly Come Dancing professional Giovanni Pernice always has his co-stars’ backs – something especially true when it comes to 2021 winner Rose Ayling-Ellis.
His former dance partner had her pro dancer’s full support as she took to Instagram to make a candid confession about her deafness – explaining it was often “forgotten” about while she was starring in EastEnders.
Speaking about the BAFTA Breakthrough programme, which offers young creative mentoring and career development opportunities, Rose posted a headshot to her Instagram grid with a lengthy caption.

She said: “Breaking through in the industry as an actor is really hard, but when you have a disability it’s even harder. I want to do more acting.
“I’m really passionate about that, but opportunity doesn’t come to me very often. BAFTA Breakthrough is a programme for opportunity, so I’m hoping it will provide me with more.”
It comes after she told Metro that her deafness was “forgotten” about while acting in BBC soap EastEnders.
She said: “The thing is, I wasn’t well known, I didn’t have that much experience, but EastEnders took me on and made me a regular.
“That is brilliant for EastEnders to do that, because they gave me an opportunity to show that I’m capable of doing it.
“But it’s so fast [paced], there are so many writers and so many directors. I played a character, which is fantastic.
“I had a storyline, but sometimes my deafness got forgotten about a bit. And that is not EastEnders’ fault. It’s the system.”
Rose said there is “nobody deaf and disabled behind the screen”, and intends to “build up” the future for those budding stars.
Rose’s fans flocked to support her after her latest post, with Giovanni making sure to place a like on the sweet post.
