Strictly's Motsi Mabuse 'heartbroken' as she prays for her stranded family in Ukraine

Motsi Mabuse has expressed her “heartbreak” as she fears for her family who are currently stranded and unable to flee Ukraine.

The 40-year-old Strictly Come Dancing star has taken to Twitter to express her pain and deep upset after her mother-in-law phoned her in floods of tears as President Putin positioned 200,000 Russian troops in and around Ukraine.

The Russian leader demanded that Ukraine’s military lay down its arms as they stormed the country by land, air and sea after pre-dawn firing missiles.

After the news broke, terrified Motsi made contact with her loved ones only to be met with sobs which left her feeling totally helpless.

Taking to Twitter this morning, the Strictly star wrote: “Prayers for the Ukraine and the World!”

Later, she returned with an update after speaking with her husband’s mum.

The South African native wrote: “It’s heartbreaking hearing my mother in law crying this morning, afraid and there absolutely nothing we can do! Just Sad honestly.”

She returned again hours later with another update: “Our parents have been told to go outside and switch off water and gas!

“They have no possibility to get to the Polish border.”

Floods of comments poured in beneath the post as worried fans, followers and friends offered up their prayers.

One person said: “Thinking of you and your parents. I’ll never understand why the human race cannot live together in peace and harmony.”

A second added: “So sad for you and your parents and everyone in Ukraine. Much love and prayers xx”

“I am heartbroken for the people of Ukraine. I am praying for their safety Motsi,” read another kind message.

Thursday’s invasion comes after weeks of built-up tension after Russia assigned troops to Ukraines borders.

Ukraine’s leader said his country “won’t give up its freedom”.

President Volodymyr Zelensky tweeted: “Russia has embarked on a path of evil, but Ukraine is defending itself.”
