Sue Perkins left in tears after being deliberately shot for dangerous new show

Sue Perkins was reduced to tears after being deliberately shot in Colombia for a TV show.

The stand up comedian and TV presenter was blasted at close range wearing protective gear for Netflix show Perfectly Legal.

Perkins’ experience left her shaken and she recalled the pain she felt after receiving the blow.

Former The Great British Bake Off star said: “Colombia is the major exporter of bullet proof clothing. The main vendor, Miguel Caballero, took me to a warehouse in Bogota and said, ‘Don’t look at me – I cannot shoot someone who is looking at me’.”

She then explained that he “told her to breathe in because the bullet will hurt” and promised the presenter that he would count to three before he took aim at her.

However, he didn’t stick to his word and shocked Sue with his sudden attack.

Perkins explained: “He said: ‘Breathe in’ and counted to one – and then shot me. The first thing I said was: ‘Where were the two and three?’”

Sue described the experience as “a horrible pain in her stomach” and was horrified to see that the bullet was “flat as a pancake” as it hit the ground.

It all got a bit much for Perkins as she admitted: “Then I just wanted to collapse. I went outside and cried.”

Sue’s new Netflix show sees her travel across South America, visiting hotspots such as Mexico, Colombia and Brazil, to soak up the culture and learn more about life in Latin America.

Perkins has dubbed her adventure as a “midlife crisis” but felt that she had a responsibility to go out into the big wide world for both herself and her audience.

She acknowledged that “not everyone has the luxury of going halfway around the world”, but Sue felt like she “had to travel for everybody” due to previous restrictions caused by Covid-19.

In only the first episode, Sue gets shot at, plays an explosive game of bowls, tries white water rafting, is rubbed with an egg and has tequila spat at her.

However, Sue “doesn’t encourage” people to do the same things she did, as she did them “for all the people who are in their midlife” to get a sense to being grateful for what they have.
