Sunday Brunch in chaos as chef 'walks off set' midway through Channel 4 show

Channel 4 favourite weekend show Sunday Brunch was left in chaos this weekend (July 31) as guest chef Richard Corrigan walked off the set.

Hosts Simon Rimmer and Tim Lovejoy were presenting the show as usual alongside guests including Al Murray, McFly’s Dougie Poynter and Samantha Womack.

But things quickly started to go wrong as soon as they introduced Richard, who was busy preparing one of the dishes to serve to their panelists that day.

Tim and Simon were forced to order him back onto the set after he walked off before being asked – and before the cameras even had a chance to focus on him for his official introduction.

Simon told viewers: “Also over there is Richard Corrigan, who I’ll be cooking with in a little while…”

Tim added: “He’s gone, look! He just walked off. We didn’t see him – can you come back into the shot, Richard?”

As Simon joked: “See, he does exist!”, Tim urged Richard to wave to the viewers at home.

He was forced to jog back into shot, as the hosts apologised for the upcoming “controversial” comments, with Simon joking: “Richard Corrigan has had more editing already than any episode ever for reasons of libel, swearing…”

He added that producers had warned viewers to take controversial comments with a grain of salt.

But clearly still pals, Tim cheekily added: “If you ever get the chance to go out with Richard Corrigan for dinner, for a week, for life… do it. He’s got so many great stories.”

Tim later confessed to a wardrobe malfunction on the show, as he was forced to change clothes a few weeks ago after cutting his finger and getting blood all over his shirt.

Thankfully the idea of the grisly injury didn’t seem to put the guests off their food.

Elsewhere on the programme, fans were left confused by the seating arrangements, as Samantha opted for a cross-legged position on her stool.

One fan quickly tweeted: “Why is Samantha Womack sat on a chair with legs in a yoga position while eating a meal?”

As another said: “Womack’s got no legs!” and a third posted: “This Pilates video available to stream, legs on the table, Buddha stance under the table, Sam you are throwing some shapes…”

The walk-off is hardly the first time the set has descended into complete chaos, as last year the show grabbed headlines after a fire erupted in Simon’s frying pan.

Frying up some gnocci, the chef explained: “Gnocchi, when it comes to the surface, you pop it straight in your frying pan. I mean, you don’t have to, but there’s something nice about fried potato.”

But as Simon added a tomato-based sauce to the pan, flames from the hob began to rise.

His guests’ jaws dropped in shock, as Susanna Fielding put both hands over her mouth.

“Fire!” Tim warned – but an unaffected Simon merely continued to stir the mixture as though nothing was amiss.

“That’s nice, that’s lovely,” he said.
