The Chase contestant hailed 'best player in five years' after 'unbelievable' first round

The Chase viewers were sent into meltdown during the latest edition fo the popular quiz show as one contestant showed off their incredible skills.

Bradley Walsh welcomed four contestants to the show on Friday (July 9) to try and outsmart the Chaser – Mark Labbett aka The Beast.

Fans witnessed Coli, 71, Geri, 51 and 22 year-old Elena from Nottingham take on the Chaser, but it was 33 year-old James who had viewers shocked.

James got off to an amazing start in the game, quickly racking up £11,000 extra for his team to win after answering the host’s questions at warp speed, some even before Bradley finished asking his question.

After the time limit ran out, he received a round of applause from his fellow contestants on the panel whilst Bradley Walsh was left in shock.

The 62-year-old presenter was flabbergasted as he exclaimed: “Unbelievable, 11 Grand, that doesn’t happen, that doesn’t happen .. ever! You’re deadly for the final.”

After, Mark Labbett – also known as The Beast – made his grand entrance into the studio he couldn’t help but also clap.

The 56 year-old quizzer claimed: “That’s the best [performance] I’ve seen in over 5 years”

James replied, “Coming from Mark that’s a big compliment.”

Viewers couldn’t help but also pick up on James’ extensive selection of know-how.

One fan tweeted:: “Mate this fella should be a chaser #TheChase”

Another viewer noted: “Wow! That’s how you play the game #TheChase”.

He went on to successfully win the money bringing his team’s total to £24,000 for the final round.

Even the Chaser couldn’t help but admire James’ knowledge for a second time.

Mark exclaimed: “I’m going to have to bring my A+ game”

Other ITV watchers also echoed Bradley’s sentiments with one viewer writing: “#TheChase Best player I’ve ever seen !!!! Hope he gets back and wins big”

And a different viewer took to twitter saying: “#TheChase Wow! Amazing. Best player I’ve seen in this. This is a great team. Totally deserve to win.”

Whilst a third quiz fan tweeted: “He’s good #thechase”

The team went on to win the full amount in the final round, after outrunning the Chaser for the episode pushing The Beast back five times.

But even after loosing Mark had nothing but admiration for the day’s contestants as he explained: “These are the games I live for, because I could just have fun and just go for it instead of playing responsibly trying to nurdle a win”

He added: “You absolutely earnt the money, well done guys!”
