The Crown 'will end on a high for King Charles' following major Netflix show backlash

The final series of Netflix ‘s popular drama The Crown will “end on a high for King Charles”, television insiders have revealed.

The Telegraph recently reported that the sixth series which is set to air next year November, will finish during the King’s 2005 wedding to the then Camilla Parker Bowles and aims to leave viewers with a “positive” perception of the monarchy.

The final series, which is currently being filmed will turn its spotlight on the “adventures and misadventures” of New Labour in power.

The insider also revealed that the programme will begin to reflect Royal events as they take an upward turn.

The news comes after series five of The Crown -which is set to be released on November 9 – had been heavily criticised with one royal biographer labelling it “deliberately hurtful”.

Since the release of the trailer, many have called out the show for the decision to recreate the final days of Princess Diana and shooting some scenes in Paris, where she tragically died.

Despite Netflix insisting that Diana’s death in Pont de l’Alma tunnel in central Paris will not be re-enacted on the show, crew members have allegedly had concerns regarding the portrayal in the new series.

A source reportedly told The Sun: “To be going back to Paris and turning Diana’s final days and hours into a drama feels very uncomfortable.

“The show always tried to present a fictional version of royal history with as much sensitivity as possible. But lately, as things get closer to the present day, it feels harder to strike that balance.”

Series five will also display the breakdown of the relationship between King Charles, who is played by actor Dominic West and Princess Diana, played by Elizabeth Debicki.

But as the controversy surrounding the programme started to explode, last week a spokesperson for The Crown said: “The Crown has always been presented as a drama based on historical events.

“Series five is a fictional dramatisation, imagining what could have happened behind closed doors during a significant decade for the royal family – one that has already been scrutinised and well-documented by journalists, biographers and historians.”
