Daniel Radcliffe was just 12-years-old when he first played the leading role in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.
And now, as if by magic, on July 23 he turns 33.
The actor has gone on to star in many other movies since moving away from the Wizarding World – such as The Woman in Black, Swiss Army man and romantic comedy, What If?
However during his time battling death-eaters and trying to protect the world from ‘he who must not be named’, Radcliffe has since admitted to hating one of the films in the Harry Potter franchise.
But which one is it and why does he hate it?
Daniel Radcliffe’s least favourite Harry Potter film
Daniel Radcliffe reportedly hates the film Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, which is the sixth film in the series.
It has nothing to do with the movie itself or the storyline, but Daniel has publicly criticised his own performance.
Speaking with the Daily Mail in 2014, he explained that he doesn’t like watching himself on screen, but “I do make myself sit through it’.
He added: “And that’s why it’s hard to watch a film like Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince, because I’m just not very good in it. I hate it.
“My acting is very one-note and I can see I got complacent and what I was trying to do just didn’t come across.|
Speaking to Playboy in 2015, Daniel continued to explain: “In every movie up to the sixth one, you can see a big step forward in my acting. And then it stopped, or went backward maybe, in the sixth film.
“I remember watching it and thinking, wow, there’s been no growth.
“You’re watching a mistake you made every day for 11 months — that’s the way I saw it. I had the idea that Harry was like a soldier traumatised by war, and as a result of that, he shuts down emotionally. That’s not a bad idea, but it’s not the most interesting thing to watch for two and a half hours.”
What is Daniel Radcliffe’s favourite Harry Potter film?
Ironically, his favourite film in the series was the movie before, The Order of the Phoenix.
Maybe his disappointment with The Half-Blood Prince was a hangover created by his nostalgia of the previous movie.
In an interview with Inside, when asked which Harry Potter film he likes the most, he said: “The fifth one, which is not one that most people cite as one of their favourites. But I got to work with Gary Oldman a bunch in it. And I was sort of a little bit older at that point, so I was able to appreciate that more.”
He added to the Daily Mail that he could see “progression” in that film.
Daniel Radcliffe’s Harry Potter on-set crush
During the Harry Potter 20th anniversary reunion, where cast and stars talked fondly of the magic world that has meant so much to so many, Daniel revealed his on-set crush.
Despite being 23 years older than him, Daniel had a major soft spot for Helena Bonham Carter, who played Voldemort’s evil sidekick Bellatrix Lestrange.
Daniel recalled a letter he sent to her: “Dear HBC, it was a pleasure being your co-star and coaster, in the fact I always ended up holding your coffee.
“I do love you and I wish I’d just been born ten years earlier so I might’ve been in with a chance.”
Quite the confession! Perhaps someone slipped him some love potion?
