The Mack’s Max Julien has passed away after his wife found his body on New Year’s Day.
The actor died on his birthday and was 88 years old.
Many celebrities have poured tributes to the star following the tragic news of his death.
His PR team told TMZ that Julien’s wife found him dead early this morning (January 1).
In a statement they paid tribute to the star’s life, saying: “During Julien’s decades-long career, he was known for being bold, honest and straightforward.
“He would live and speak his own truth both professionally and privately. He was thought of as a rare ‘man among men’.”
The tragic news of his death was broken by comic book writer and producer David F Walker.
He had posted a tribute to the star online.
He wrote: “Max Julien Jan. 1, 1945 – Jan. 1, 2022, I met Max back in 1996. He was a great human being, and we had so many amazing conversations. He was brilliant and hilarious and charismatic… R.I.P”
His cause of death has not yet been disclosed by his family or PR team.
Julien was known for his role as Goldie in The Mack, but he appeared in many hit TV shows and films.
He portrays an ambitious up-and-coming pimp in Oakland, who faces off with corrupt cops and a drug kingpin after being released from prison in the 1973 cult classic character Goldie.
He builds his roster of women with his sidekick, Slim, who is played by Richard Pryor, before he made it big as an actor.
Iconic lines and scenes from The Mack had also been embedded into popular culture.
Hip Hop rappers sample snippets of the film into their songs.
Snoop Dogg, Mobb Deep, Too Short, LL Cool J, MC Ren, Public Enemy, and Jadakiss have paid tribute.

He also appeared in Thomasine & Bushrod, Def Jam’s How to Be a Player as well as Cleopatra Jones.
Julien was seen in notable movies such as The Black Klansman, Psych-Out, Uptight, Getting Straight, and Mod Squad.
Fans also paid their respects online after hearing the news.
One Twitter user wrote: “I met Max back in 1996. He was a great human being, and we had so many amazing conversations. He was brilliant and hilarious and charismatic… R.I.P.”
Another said: “2022 done already gone and killed The Mack!”
The star was born on January 1, 1933, and was aged 88 at the time of his death.
Julien is survived by his wife Arabella.
