The One Show took an awkward turn when presenter Nikki Fox told off Steve Coogan for not laughing at her joke.
The BBC One chat show kicked off again on Wednesday (April 20), and it saw show hosts Jermaine Jenas and Zoe Ball chat to legendary comic Steve and EastEnders star Kim Medcalfe.
However, things turned awkward when presenter Nikki Fox told a joke about customers getting ‘stung’ by Sting tickets.
The broadcaster was telling viewers about complaining customers who have faced issues with ticket resell site called Stubhub.
The customers claimed they were having issues getting in touch with the resale site.
However, Nikki clearly didn’t get the response from Steve that she was looking for, so she took to giving him a stern word about it on air.
“Stubhub. It’s a ticket resale site that gives customers the opportunity to buy and re-sell tickets, but we’ve been hearing about customers who have been having all sorts of issues trying to reach Stubhub when there’s a problem.”
She then said: “Sally Marshall, she got in touch with us. She booked tickets to see Sting and got Stung. Thank you.”
Nikki’s co-stars Jermaine and Zoe laughed at the pun, but Steve remained decidedly unfazed by the joke as she looked around the studio for a response.
Coogan then nodded in approval and seemed to say “Very good.”
However, Nikki was looking for a laugh and told him: “You could have laughed at that, Coogan.”
The studio burst out laughing, and Steve eventually said: “I appreciated it.”
Nikki then laughed and said: “Thank you.”
Coogan has taken on the role of disgraced entertainer Jimmy Savile in a controversial new BBC One programme called The Reckoning.
The mini-series is set to be released this year, and it will follow the story of how the late sex offender became one of the biggest stars in television.
Steve recently revealed he’d go and talk to his co-stars who were playing Savile’s victims in the show before they shot scenes together.
