This Morning fans fume as Gino D'Acampo uses £100 ingredient in cost of living crisis

This Morning fans were left fuming today as telly chef Gino D’Acampo served up a dish featuring pricey white truffles – despite the ongoing cost of living crisis.

The TV chef, 46, returned to join hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby as he made a creamy chipolata and mascarpone pasta for those tuning into the ITV show.

As he shaved the delicacy on top of the indulgent pasta, he left fans stunned when he admitted the truffle costs over £100.

Quizzed by the hosts about using such a pricey product, Gino boasted that he did it “because he can.”

He also revealed that his sons had encouraged him to use the ingredient on the show and he called This Morning to make sure they had it for him.

Gino joked that it had come out of Holly and Phil’s wages as they looked on in horror.

As the cost of living crisis affects millions across Britain, forcing Brits to economize by purchasing cheaper food, Gino left viewers fuming at the luxury ingredient.

“#ThisMorning for goodness sake, please use your cooking slot to produce healthy meals on a budget which I’m sure your viewers are crying out for. It’s not rocket science. Gino’s recipe with truffle was just insulting #Furious,” one wrote.

Another added: “A #CostOfLivingCrisis and @thismorning is cooking with Truffle costing £100/£150. Seriously? #OutOfTouch You poor people can use essence or extract! #ThisMorning.”

A third angry fan wrote: “Is #Thismorning deliberately trying to antagonise viewers? We’re in the middle of a financial crisis and they’re using white truffle in their pasta recipe. They are trying to justify the £100 price tag because it flavours your eggs… wtf! Please @thismorning read the room!”

The segment comes just days after the show was slammed for promoting £345 advent calendars

The segment comes just days after the show was slammed for promoting £345 advent calendars.

Hosts Phil and Holly insisted it was simply to show off the good deals as they hit the shelves but those watching at home were not convinced.

The Sarah Jossel feature saw her showing off a number of highly priced items, including Liberty Men’s Advent Calendar for £245, Flannels Beauty Advent Calendar for £235 and the Jo Loves one for £335.

The cheapest one she showed was £50 and many felt the segment was distasteful in light of the current economic crisis.

Taking to Twitter to complain, one person wrote: “#ThisMorning £335 on an advent calendar…they’re trolling us people.”
