This Morning shakeup as Phillip Scofield hosts solo as Holly Willoughby ditches show

This Morning was in huge shakeup on Thursday morning (December 1) as Phillip Scofield hosted the show alone – which is a very rare occurrence.

“You may notice that someone is missing. That’s because Holly is busy doing something that parents up and down the country can relate to,” Phil said when he appeared on the blue couch along.

His regular co-host Holly Willoughby was missing from the sofa, but did appear via a livestream for a brief message.

Admitting that it was odd to be hosting the show alone with nobody beside him, Phil was overjoyed when Holly appeared on-screen.

Thanking her co-host for allowing her to watch her son Chester as Father Christmas in his school’s nativity, Holly seemed emotional that she had been allowed to attend.

While chatting to Phil via video link, he said: “You are doing what parents up and down the land are doing now.”

To which Holly replied: “I’ve got my tissues in my pocket and I’m ready to have a cry.”

Holly then went on to reveal that after seeing her son perform in the play, she would be racing back to the studio in order to carry out her hosting duties alongside Phil.

But fans weren’t impressed with Holly as she “took the morning off work” – with many questioning her absence.

One took to Twitter to ask: “Can we… talk about how Holly can’t just take the morning off work to go to her son’s nativity play but has to dial in to work from the play and then rush back to the studio afterwards?”

Another then added: “Holly at her own kids Christmas play whilst paid be on tv and head teacher holding the phone film her tell us she’s there like that’s ok.”

Adding: “Head teacher wouldn’t do that for anyone else. She’s highest paid woman on ITV in cost of living crisis not at work. Is this a joke?”

But a third was in support of the blonde beauty: “Lovely to see Holly Willoughby keeping it real for the working mums who broadcast live on This Morning from her son’s school so she didn’t miss his nativity play! These important moments matter.”

This Morning airs weekdays at 9am on ITV1 and ITVX.
