Tensions over who would win the award have been high this year following the queue-gate scandal that surrounded This Morning presenters Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield.
Following the monarch’s passing, the pair faced backlash after being accused of jumping the queue to visit the late Queen Elizabeth II lying-in-state in Westminster Abbey.
The presenting duo later issued a statement clarifying the issue, but public anger continued to rise – with over 75,000 signing a petition to axe them from the ITV show.
They went on to thank viewers for their continued support following the outpour of support on social media after a difficult year.
Alison Hammond and her co-host Dermot O’Leary then walked up to the podium where they cut the tension with their hilarious comments.
The brunette beauty joked that she should have won one of the highly sought-after she lost out to Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly for the best TV presenter award.
But the mum-of-one joked that she would settle for This Morning winning one of the gilded awards instead.
