Gladiators star Wolf admitted that he once made host Ulrika Jonsson “storm off” the ITV show.
Michael Van Wijk, 69, became known to the world as The Wolf Man after starring in all eight series of Gladiators from 1992 to 2000.
Never missing an episode, the bodybuilder became known for his cheeky on set antics towards the contenders and is now recognised as one of the most iconic parts of the show.

Also featuring in every episode was presenter Ulrika who fronted the show throughout its original run, leading to the duo developing a brilliant on screen relationship across the eight years.

The presenter, 55, was the first to point out when Wolf didn’t perform at his best and recalling one of these moments, the TV icon revealed in an exclusive chat with Daily Star that a brutal comment once caused her to abruptly leave.
Wolf recalled: “I’d just make stuff up on the spot. I didn’t have any speeches made up beforehand or anything so I was quite surprised they kept this bit in with Ulrika Jonnsson but they loved it apparently.

The former gladiator continued: “There was one time Ulrika came out and said ‘Well that was a bit pathetic’ and I was like ‘Excuse me?’ and she went ‘I thought that was terrible’.”
So I grabbed the microphone out of her hand and shouted to the audience ‘Do you want to know why I lost’ and they screamed ‘Yeah!’ so I told them ‘Just before I came out to do this game, I saw Ulrika backstage with no makeup on and I felt sick!’ and she stormed off.”

The TV legend went on to say that the crowd absolutely loved the “on the spot” interaction between the pair which made it into the final edit of one of the episodes.
“The audience were laughing and screaming and clapping and then they kept it in, they loved it! And it was just made up in the spur of the moment.”
Insisting that Ulrika didn’t take it personally, Wolf added: “She didn’t say anything to me afterwards so it was all a bit of fun. But the fact is that she didn’t expect that and I just made it up on the spot is what made it so great.”
