Why Sarah Jessica Parker never showed her twin daughters' faces – until now

Sarah Jessica Parker has managed to keep a fairly private life over the years despite her fame following her various acting roles and her fashion business empire.

The actress rose to fame for her role in Footloose and her career boomed as she took on the role as Sarah Sanderson in Halloween movie Hocus Pocus.

She later took on the role as Carrie Bradshaw in HBO’s Sex and the City, one year after her wedding to actor Matthew Broderick.

The happy couple went on to have a son together and then two twin daughters, who were born via surrogacy.

Here’s everything you need to know about Sarah Jessica Parker’s family life, and why she has kept her daughters out of the spotlight – until now:

SJP and Matthew Broderick married in a civil ceremony in a historic synagogue on the Lower East Side in Manhattan in May 1997.

Their son James was born five years later on October 28, 2002, and their twin daughters, Marion and Tabitha, were born June 22, 2009, via surrogacy.

Over the years, SJP has posted about her children on Instagram, however, their faces are usually hidden.

She detailed in the social media posts how they were all navigating growing up and changes as a family.

When her children headed back to school after the summer holidays last year, SJP shared a snap of each of them walking away, with the caption: “In the span of 7 days. One crosses the threshold into his freshman year of college. The other 2 into 7th grade. The house is different. We are different. They need us more. And far less. So many know. Gutted at the time passed. Passing. Exhilarated by the possibilities that await them. The love. The love. The love. X, SJ.”

SJP and Matthew decided to keep their children out of the spotlight to give them a normal upbringing and to keep them grounded.

Talking on Australia’s KIIS FM, the Hocus Pocus star said: “Parents who aren’t well known can have children who aren’t grounded because of the example they set in their home.”

SJP went on to explain that since she grew up with not a lot of money she vowed, following her fame, that she would put her family’s needs over their wants.

The actress said she tells her three children: “‘I will do my best to make sure you always have what you need, but I want you pining towards something. I want you to work for something, to dream of it, to will it to happen.'”

However, her twin daughters recently made a rare red carpet appearance to show support to their doting mother at the premiere of Hocus Pocus 2, which will be released in cinemas in the UK on September 30.

Much like her character Carrie Bradshaw in Sex And The City, New York will always feel like home to the award-winning actress, who was actually born in Ohio.

Since 2009, SJP has lived in Greenwich Village with her husband and three children.

In 2017, it was reported that the couple were renovating two townhouses they had purchased for $35million (£32.3m) on West 11th Street.

The Parker-Brodericks also spend a considerable amount of time at their second home near Kilcar, a village in County Donegal, Ireland, where Matthew spent summers as a child.
