Why was Kanye suspended from Instagram as Trevor Noah targeted with abuse

Kanye West has been suspended from Instagram for 24 hours over his actions towards comedian Trevor Noah.

Kanye, who has legally changed his name to Ye, has been in locked in an ongoing battle with estranged wife Kim Kardashian and her new partner Pete Davidson.

The feud has been very public and a common talking point in the media, with Kanye having accused Kardashian of stopping him from seeing his kids.

Kanye has regularly posted screenshots of the conversations between the three.

Following the ban, Kanye’s account is still visible to Instagram users, but he is unable to post, comment or direct message using it.

What did Kanye say to Trevor Noah?

Kanye has been suspended for making a racial slur towards The Daily Show host Trevor Noah.

In a statement, Meta, which owns Instagram, said: “We often take additional steps against accounts that repeatedly break our rules by placing restrictions on their account.”

According to TMZ, Kanye posted a screenshot of the Google search page result for Trevor along with racial slurs. West used the word “k**n”, which is a highly offensive and derogatory term towards people of colour.

Noah had made comments during the comedy news programme The Daily Show about Kim’s experience following her breakup from Kanye.

He said: “You may not feel sorry for Kim because she’s rich and famous.

“But what she’s going through is terrifying to watch and shines a spotlight on what so many women go through when they choose to leave.”

Ye has often posted comments online about the couple, leading to widespread criticism.

Meta said that Kanye’s actions had breached its policies on hate speech and bullying and had violated its policy on harassment.

In response to Kanye’s post, Noah said: “Don’t ever forget, the biggest trick racists ever played on black people was teaching us to strip each other of our blackness whenever we disagree.

“Tricking us into dividing ourselves up into splinters so that we would never unite into a powerful rod.”

Meta is also thought to have removed some posts on Kanye’s account. Many of those still remaining are aimed at Pete Davidson. One post reads: “Yet another reason why SKETE [referencing Pete Davidson] gotta stay away from my children.”

The Daily Star has reached out to Kanye’s representatives for comment.
