X Factor's Ella Henderson leaves fans confused as she 'sings at Tory conference'

X Factor star Ella Henderson’s representatives have released a statement following the backlash she received for performing at this year’s Conservative Party conference.

The reality star, who came sixth place in the singing competition during the 2012 series, received criticism for her performance after she recently sang at Birmingham Pride Festival a few weeks prior.

Members of the LGBTQ+ community called out Ella, 26, as they believed she was demonstrating “fake allyship” following the gig.

Footage from her performance at the event emerged on Twitter where she could be seen singing her popular song Ghost.

But since the negative messages were received online, a spokesperson for UK Music, which organises Ella’s shows has now stepped in.

The spokesperson said: “Ella Henderson performed as guest of UK Music and TikTok at the Conservative Party Conference, following a similar event at the Labour Party Conference the week before.

“Ella was due to perform at the Labour Party Conference as well but had to pull out due to illness.”

The spokesperson added: “These events do not indicate political affiliation and are held to highlight the importance of the UK’s music sector and the success of our talent on a global stage.”

As the clip of Ella’s performance circulated on Twitter, disgruntled fans aired their grievances.

One person branded the decision “disgusting” while another said: “Shocked to see this tbh.”

Offering an opposing view, one tweeter jumped to Ella’s defence and penned: “Major U.K. artists plays at conference for U.K. government and people are shocked. Get real – just embarrassing.”

And another said: “Stop trying to cancel Ella Henderson you f*****g idiots, she can sing where she likes and she can have whatever political view she wants, leave her alone.”
