YouTuber Keenan Cahill dies aged 27 as he's praised for 'making the world smile'

YouTube sensation Keenan Cahill, who has been praised for “making the world smile”, has reportedly died at just 27 years of age, following open heart surgery.

Keenan, who was famous for his lip sync videos and had amassed a huge following, passed away on Thursday (December 29) according to a family spokesperson, reports WGN.

The cause of Keenan’s death has not yet been revealed.

Keenan had Maroteaux–Lamy syndrome, and just two weeks ago he shared that he was undergoing open heart surgery on December 15.

Taking to Instagram days before his scheduled surgery on December 12, Keenan uploaded his final Instagram post where he wrote: “For those who are asking. December 15th is the date of surgery.”

And before his final post, on December 5 he shared a post and penned: “One week till open heart surgery. Wish me luck. Love ya’ll.”

His condition, Maroteaux-Lamy syndrome, resulted in him developing an appearance much like that of people with dwarfism.

Keenan was four foot two inches tall.

Other symptoms and characteristics of his condition are thickening of the dura, shortened trunk, crouched stance, restricted joint movement, and enlarged hands.

Keenan was diagnosed at just one, and was treated with a bone marrow transplant in 1997 to slow down the progression of the disease.

Throughout his life he had multiple surgeries to slow progression of his condition and allow him to live a normal life, including surgery to relieve intracranial pressure (a build up of pressure around the brain).

Keenan shot to fame in 2010 when he uploaded a lip-synched video to his YouTube channel.

The first video he made and uploaded was of him lip-syncing to Katy Perry’s hit song Teenage Dream.

He went on to welcome a slew of famous faces to his channel, with the likes of Justin Bieber, Jennifer Aniston and Flo Rida being just a few.
