Yvette Mimieux – an American actress who starred in many films during the 60s – was ‘found dead’ in her home on Tuesday.
The actress and writer died ten days after her celebrating her 80th birthday, a representative for her family have confirmed.
Many fans have taken to social media to share their condolences and pay tributes to the prolific actress.
One fan wrote on Twitter: “RIP Yvette – she’s passed away”
Another penned: “How sad,” followed by a broken heart emoji.
The stunning actress turned 80 on January 10 and it has been reported that she “died in her sleep of natural causes.”
The Time Machine star was born in 1942 and according to IMDB had 50 acting credits to her name.
She most famously starred opposite Rod Taylor in the 1960 George Pal directed adaptation of the H.G. Wells novel The Time Machine.
In the 60’s Yvette was put under a long term contract with American movie company MGM Studios.
It was then which saw her star in films such as: Where The Boys Are, Platinum High School, Mr. Lucky, Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse and Light in the Piazza.
She continued to work until retiring from acting in 1992 after a final turn in the 1992 TV movie, Lady Boss.
Outside of her acting career, Yvette was known as a writer and entrepreneur who started her own business selling Haitian products.
In an interview with The Washing Post, Yvette once revealed she was not a fan of being in the public light.
She said: “I decided I didn’t want to have a totally public life.
“When the fan magazines started wanting to take pictures of me making sandwiches for my husband, I said no.
“You know there are tribes in Africa who believe that a camera steals a little part of your soul, and in a way, I think that’s true about living your private life in public.”
Yvette leaves behind her husband of 36 years, Howard F. Ruby, who she married in 1986 – the pair had no children.
From 1972 to 1985, she was married to American film director and choreographer Stanley Donen.
It has been reported that they’ll be no memorial service to commemorate the actress.
Dateline reported: “Yvette was very private about her personal life while alive, and it will be the same in death.”
