Alan Sugar breaks silence on The Apprentice’s end and warns it ‘won’t work without him’

Lord Alan Sugar has revealed his plans for The Apprentice when he decides to step down from the beloved teatime show.

The business mogul has piloted the primetime series for an impressive 17 years, and it appears as though he doesn’t have any plans to slow down just yet.

Ahead of the highly anticipated final, the 75-year-old British TV star confessed to The Sun that no one could truly replace him on the BBC One series.

This year’s finale – which hits the airwaves on Thursday (March 23) – will see boxing gym owner Marnie Swindells and hair guru Rochelle Anthony go head-to-head to win the final investment.

While the dynamic duo battle it out for the eye-watering £250,000 investment of Lord Sugar’s dosh, the telly boss hinted that he would continue to present the show until its 25th series.

He said: “I don’t want to sound too big-headed, but a lot of people underestimate me. They hear me talking like a cockney, but I know everything, I really do.

“I’m not degrading people like (Dragon’s Den star) Peter Jones, because they’ve done a lot also.”

He added: “But none of them have done as much as I have. Who would I put in my place? I can’t think of anybody. There’s loads of people that would queue up.

“There’s no reason why I can’t go on to do 25 years. I’m very fit, so I don’t know whether it stops at 20.”

The reality star explained that he would rather end the show after a milestone series and then return in “ten years’ time” but with different people hosting.

The 17th series rang in the New Year with 18 keen candidates vying the for £250k, which saw them jet out to the heart of the Caribbean Island of Antigua where they were tasked with flogging bespoke tours of the island.

Now the final two just have three days to create a brand for their company, produce a digital billboard, direct and edit at TV advert and design a metaverse before pitching their final idea to Lord Sugar and industry experts.
