APITS' Jonnie Irwin jokes he looks a ‘right state’ in ‘walk of shame’ amid cancer battle

Jonnie Irwin joked that he looked a “right state” as he recalled his “panicked” train dash on Monday morning amid his treatment for terminal cancer.

The former A Place In The Sun star was given just six months to live when he was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer, aged 49.

The cancer then spread to his brain in August 2020, and he publicly shared his diagnosis later that year in December.

Since then, the husband and dad-of-three has been keeping his loyal legion of followers updated on his journey and how he is doing.

And on Monday (April 10) Jonnie joked about how he looked a “right state” during a “crazed” morning rush to catch a train.

Taking to his Instagram, Jonnie posted a snap of himself safely on the train, but getting there was far from easy as he opened up to his followers.

“Must’ve looked a right state – crazed and panicked Chemo boy dragging a wheeled case with a strange transparent shoulder bag falling down his arm and a hot crossed bun hanging from the side of his mouth attempting to run for the departing train.

“Thankfully the kind guardsman held the door at the far end. My penance was that my seat was at the opposite end so I had to walk past all the passengers who had viewed this spectacle.”

He added the hashtags: “walkofshame and relief.”

Many of Jonnie’s followers soon flooded the comments section to praise the Channel 4 star and send their support.

One fan said: “You’re amazing. If I had been a passenger I would have looked at you and thought what a guy. Such an inspiration.”

“To be fair, I’d call that a ‘power flex’ not a ‘walk of shame’,” penned someone else.

Echoing their thoughts, a third wrote: “You look fine!! Just hang in there, all those folk will have had their own busy thoughts,”

While a fourth added: “Everyone’s right there with ya mate. You’ve so many people rooting for you everyday Jonnie.”

It comes after Jonnie candidly revealed last month that is “weak and fragile” but insisted he is “still here.”

Speaking to The Sun, the dad-of-three spoke about how attempting to play football with his four-year-old son “broke” him.

“I tried to play football with Rex the other day and was in goal and I couldn’t get near the ball. It was so frustrating,” he said.

“I’m very sporty and suddenly it’s just like…it was as if it was the first time I’d attempted football. I felt like a granddad. And that broke me a bit.”
