Barbra Streisand has slammed critics of her fashion choices as she claims she’s now “too old to care” about how provocatively she dresses.
The Funny Girl star, 81, said people should dress however they wish, irrelevant of their age as she opened up about her own style in a new interview. “People should express themselves and wear whatever they feel on any given day,” she said.
“And that has nothing to do with age”. Reflecting on the early days of her acting career, the Oscar winner recalled how she was initially careful not to dress too sensually.

“I was too afraid to be seen that way at that time,” Barbra explained, to the New York Times. But she revealed she no longer holds back when it comes to the more sensual side of her style, adding: “Now I’m too old to care.”
During the discussion, the Yentl star revealed she never “just went with the style of the day” but still received criticism for her outfit choices. Barbra recalled how in 1993 she attended former US President Bill Clinton’s first inaugural gala in a grey, striped jacket, skirt, and a vest featuring a deep neckline and that a journalist later dubbed the outfit a “disturbing signal” and a “coy mixed message”.
But Barbra, who recently released her new memoir My Name Is Barbra, hit back at the comments as well as the stereotypes women face in Hollywood. She said: “I thought that writer was reading a lot into that outfit, and it said more about her than about me.
“Like I wrote in my book: ‘Why can’t women be accomplished and attractive, strong and sensitive, intelligent and sensual?’” After launching her career in the 1960s with performances at nightclubs and Broadway theatres, Barbra has gone on to have a successful acting, singing and directing career which has spanned more than six decades and has seen her become one of the few performers to be awarded an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony.
But the Hollywood star has taken a step back from her acting career over the past decade. Barbra, who hasn’t starred in a film in 11 years, told People last month that she’s unlikely to return to the big screen. Explaining her decision, she said: “It gets exhausting, trying to come up with the structure of the movie and then have it not happen.”
She added: “I had many movies that I wanted to make, and then I get lazy. I go, ‘Oh yeah, to do this one, I have to have all these fittings for period clothes. This one, I’d have to live in Arkansas to do this one.’ I don’t know. It’s complicated, but I am complicated, I guess … I get lazy.”
