Barbra Streisand, 81, ‘too old to care’ whether people brand her ‘provocative’

Barbra Streisand has had enough of critics and has spoken out against naysayers of her own personal style.

She told The New York Times: “People should express themselves and wear whatever they feel on any given day,” and added that her personal style has “nothing to do with age”. However, there have been times that she didn’t want to be seen as sexy or provocative.

Streisand admitted: “I was too afraid to be seen that way at the time, now I’m too old to care.” The Funny Girl actress also spoke to PEOPLE earlier this month about her career and future in showbiz.

Sadly, it seems Barbra fans will be holding their breath if they expect another project from the powerhouse singer. The actress told the publication: “It gets exhausting, trying to come up with the structure of the movie and then have it not happen.”

“I had many movies that I wanted to make and then I get lazy. I go: ‘Oh yeah, to do this one, I have to have all these fittings for period clothes. This one, I’d have to live in Arkansas to do this one.’ I don’t know, it’s complicated, but I am complicated I guess…I get lazy.”

Although Barbra’s projects may never have come to fruition, one thing did – her recent autobiography. In the book, My Name is Barbra, she told fans that if she had continued to pursue the films previously mentioned then she wouldn’t have been able to write the tome.

Streisand said that “if she could have made her movies,” then she “never would’ve written a book”. It took the singer a decade to finish her whopping 970 page memoir.

The book covers Barbra’s early life in New York City, her career in the Big Apple and finally, how she conquered Hollywood. She also personally recorded the audiobook version of My Name Is Barbra, which spans for 48 hours.

Streisand’s recording to her six weeks to complete. She spoke to Variety about the process and joked: “I think, to do the audiobook, I was so sick of myself – can you imagine? I mean, you write a book for 10 years, then you’ve got to say it out loud!”
