Pop legend Barbra Streisand has admitted that she broke the rules when she met President John F Kennedy at the White House Correspondents Dinner.
In her memoir that is set to be released later this week Barbra revealed that at the 1963 encounter and admitted she broke protocol and shocked the other guests at the event with her comments. Barbra sang at the dinner and then got in line to meet the President of the United Staes.
All of the performers were told that meeting him would be a “quick meet and greet”. The President complimented the star on her singing, before the star let her excitement take over.

In the book Barbra wrote: “I did exactly what we were told not to do. I asked him if he would sign a card from the dinner for my mother.
“When he handed it back to me, I told him, ‘You’re a doll’. That’s a real Brooklyn expression… and I guess people were a little surprised to hear me saying it to the president. Frankly, it just slipped out.”
However the award-winning actress has since said that she stands by what she says because she feels that “he is a doll.” She also said he practically “glowed” and seemed like a rock star.
Barbra kept the card tucked into her cleavage but accidentally lost it before she got home and never got to give it to her mum. However the actress did admit that she still has the glamourous dress that she wore that night.
The star keeps it hanging up in her collection of antique clothes, which she joked in her memoir is “now an antique too.” My Name is Barbra is set to detail the star’s success and she has been discussing her famous career in interviews ahead of the release.

In an interview with BBC Breakfast, she told music correspondent Mark Savage about what she is planning to do next. The star explained: “I want to live life. I want to get in my husband’s truck and just wander, go around, hopefully with the children somewhere near us.”
The award-winning singer added: “When they come over, they love playing with the dogs, y’know we have fun. I haven’t had much fun in my life, to tell you the truth. And I want to have more fun.”
