BBC Breakfast viewers were left taken aback during Sunday’s episode (February 26) to find a presenter making their solo hosting debut.
Usually Nina Warhurst, Roger Johnson or Hannah Miller host the Sunday edition of the much-loved programme – but today, only one presenter was holding the fort.
For the latest instalment, Ben Thompson was on the iconic red sofa all by himself – and viewers were all left saying the same thing.

The 41-year-old took to his Twitter to share a picture of himself on the iconic red sofa.
He wrote: “Allllll by myseeeeeelf. Lots of news and guests to keep me company but grab a coffee and join me on @BBCBreakfast this morning.”
BBC Breakfast’s loyal legion of viewers soon took to the social media site too, to share their thoughts on Ben’s hosting gig.
“Ben bossing it on BBC breakfast this morning – great broadcaster,” gushed one viewer.
Another person added: “Doing a great job a one man show.”
“Tbf Ben Breakfast doesn’t really need two-to-tango on Sunday. Far more relaxed prog…and you are just the man. Doing a brilliant job,” proclaimed a third viewer.
Someone else tweeted: “Not sure if it was planned or ‘no replacement available’ but you’ve been managing quite well so I’ve seen.”
In December 2021, Ben announced that he would move on from BBC Breakfast after a decade in the job – and would only return for special weekend episodes.
In view of his nearly 50k followers, Ben said: “I’m hanging up my @BBCBreakfast hard hat and hi-vis in the New Year, so here’s a little thread of some of my ten years on the road, getting access to some of the most interesting and amazing businesses, and taking you with us.”
Since then, he has regularly made appearances on BBC Breakfast – often filling in for the regular hosts when needed.
