BBC Breakfast hit with major shake up as rarely seen presenters take over

BBC Breakfast underwent a major shake-up as two rarely seen presenters stepped in to front the show.

The much-loved morning programme returned for another instalment on Sunday (July 2) but things were looking rather different.

Usually Sally Nugent and Jon Kay present BBC Breakfast together from Monday to Wednesday each week.

Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt then take over from Thursday to Saturday, with two stand-in presenters stepping in to front the show on a Sunday.

And for this week’s episode – it was returning favourites Roger Johnson and Sarah Campbell who were taking the reins.

BBC Breakfast looked very different this weekend

Sarah has been working at the BBC for nearly 20 decades – and recently was elevated to the role of anchor earlier this year.

It comes after the hit BBC show has appeared to rub its viewers up the wrong way after the show introduced a major new change – one that branded “horrendous.”

This week, the show underwent a makeover with a brand new “multi-purpose” studio – which will also be shared with BBC Sport.

Another change is that the presenters will now sometimes be delivering the news while standing up – instead of sitting on the famous red sofa.

But the move hasn’t gone down well with the show’s loyal legion of viewers on Saturday (July 1) who rushed to Twitter to share their thoughts.

“Really don’t like the move to a solo standing presenter on @BBCBreakfast. No matter how cool Charlie’s glasses look I miss the sofa chemistry,” said one person.

Fans were not happy with one change

Another fumed: “What’s the point of Charlie standing up by a screen to talk to a journalist? It’s a rather pointless presentation style that adds nothing to the news.”

A third chimed in and said: “This #BBCBreakfast triptych where they stand is horrendous. A shot of the interior of the newsroom, then a panel illustrating the story then a panel with an external shot from somewhere – what on earth were they thinking?? It’s truly awful – and the colour scheme?? @BBCBreakfast.”

The fancy new set is larger than the old studio and features three more cameras and some of the latest broadcasting technology available, including high-tech GFX.

But despite its revamped appearance, it’s not moving from its home in Salford’s Media City, so the hosts won’t have to change their commute when they host the first show in the brand new studio on Monday.
