He’s best known for presenting the news to the nation on BBC Breakfast from 6am on weekday mornings.
But it appears BBC star Jon Kay was partying it up all night on New Year’s Eve – and so much so that he ‘almost missed’ the whole of New Year’s Day.
He wouldn’t be only one struggling on New Year’s Day as Brits love to see off the year with parties, fireworks and lots of booze – even if it makes the next day a bit of a struggle.

And most of us know that dreaded feeling of waking up on New Year’s Day with a terrible hangover after a night of alcohol-fuelled antics.
On Monday’s show (January 2), co-host Sally Nugent asked Jon: “What did you do to celebrate New Year?”.
Jon started dishing on his New Year’s antics as he replied: “I was at a party.”
But she cut him off to ask if he was nursing a hangover the next day when she followed up: “Did you wake yourself up on New Year’s Day with a bit of a fright?”
Jon hinted that he’d been partying rather hard on New Year’s as he woke up very late indeed the next day.
He candidly replied: “Just about New Year’s Day, yes!” before the pair burst out laughing at his blunder.
Sally was on topic as she proceeded to show Jon a photo of two brave women swimming in the sea near Edinburgh on New Year’s Day – captured on the frontpage of a newspaper.

Jon clearly had no intention of such an act on New Year’s Day 2024 as he replied: “Looks a bit muddy and cold, doesn’t it?”
Jon was revealed as a permanent host of BBC Breakfast in July – replacing previous host Dan Walker who left the broadcaster for a job at Channel 5 News.
