BBC’s EastEnders getting ‘back to its best’ as ‘morale as high’, says Sonia star

Natalie Cassidy has revealed EastEnders is back to its best after a string of cast changes

The show legend, 39, who plays Sonia Fowler, reckons morale is sky high on set because everyone is getting on so well at the moment.

A host of big names have left in recent months including Danny Dyer, 45, Charlie Brooks, 41, and Patsy Kensit, 55.

“The place is great, the morale is fantastic, all the people are great, the writing’s great.

“Of course you have the dips and the ups and it’s on an up and it’s lovely.”

EastEnders has previously been rocked by rivalries among the cast.

Danny has admitted he didn’t get on with some of his co-stars during his 10-year stint as Mick Carter.

Asked who he won’t miss, he said: “There’s a few. I ain’t going to lie. I won’t say who. Most, I love dearly. Not all…”

The soap’s new boss Chris Clenshaw has made a series of big changes since taking over last year.

They include a raft of new cast members and a gripping plot involving a mystery death that will climax at Christmas.

EastEnders stars are also celebrating a nomination for this year’s BAFTA TV Awards while rival Coronation Street missed out.

The soap has continued to grow in popularity thanks to the rise of streaming, despite a huge cut in some famous faces over the past few years including Danny Dyer, Adam Woodyatt and Jake Wood.

It was revealed by the BBC that EastEnders had its best ever year of streaming after hitting 366million streams in 2022 – and as the storylines intensify heading into 2023, it could be another big year for the soap.
