Weight loss transformations are the in thing in Hollywood right now – with stars like Rebel Wilson, Jonah Hill and Adele all shedding the pounds and showing off their stunning slimline figures.
Spy actress Melissa McCarthy managed to drop a whopping five stone in just four months, while Mike and Molly star Billy Gardell shrugged off his sitcom persona – and 150lbs along with it.
From intense diets to healthier exercise regimes, many stars provide an inspiring weight loss story while showing off their trim figures.

And though it might be harder to achieve in real life without expensive personal trainers and gastric surgeries, plenty of celebs have some sage words of advice for those of us on our own journeys.
Rebel Wilson
Pitch Perfect star Rebel Wilson declared that 2020 was going to be her “Year of Health” – and went on to shed 80 pounds (5.7 stone).
Along with working out regularly with personal trainer Jono Castano, Rebel was told that losing weight would increase her chance at becoming a mother.
After hitting her goal weight, Rebel is now focused on “maintenance”.
Rebel, who has polycystic ovarian syndrome, explained that her fertility doctor told her she would have higher chances of harvesting her eggs if she lost weight.
She confessed: “I was taken aback. I thought, ‘Oh God, this guy’s so rude.’ He was right. I was carrying around a lot of excess weight.
“It’s almost like I didn’t think of my own needs. I thought of a future child’s needs that really inspired me to get healthier,” she told People magazine.
Rebel, 43, went on to welcome her daughter Royce via surrogate with her fiancée Ramona Agruma – after confessing she’d fallen for a “Disney Princess” instead of a prince.
Ethan Suplee
My Name is Earl star Ethan Suplee weighed 500lbs at his heaviest – and was so large a normal scale couldn’t weigh him.
Now, though, the 43-year-old has managed to shed more than 300lbs and is totally ripped, regularly showing off his impressive abs on Instagram.
Now a regular at the gym, Ethan underwent two major surgeries to rid him of his excess skin, explaining the process was “brutal”.
He explained: “I realised later in life that much of my binge eating came on my own. When I was a teenager I would go out to a nightclub with my friends and never really felt comfortable eating in front of people, but on my way home I’d always find a 24 hour drive-through and eat three whole meals right before bed.”
Ethan added: “As I became more calorie conscious, I started to binge less and fill up on healthier foods. After a few months of this, calories stopped being calories. They started being food.”
Melissa McCarthy
Gilmore Girls star Melissa McCarthy at one point managed to shed an impressive five stone in just four months after going on an all-liquid diet, which allowed her just 500 calories per day.
The actress confessed she felt “starved and crazy half the time”, and then eventually revealed her secret to more consistent weight loss.
She explained to Extra: “No trick, nothing to tell, just super boring life. You bring it real down, you don’t do anything fun and you go to bed at 7:30 – that’s the trick.”
Although Melissa’s weight has been up and down over the years, she confessed she doesn’t focus on a specific number on the scales, but confessed she’d struggled with her weight her whole life.
She explained to Rolling Stone: “I do think I worried about weight too soon, when it was only little-kid weight.
“I thought I battled weight throughout high school, but I look back at pictures of me as a cheerleader, doing sprints, lifting weights, doing gymnastics, playing tennis.
“And while I wasn’t reed-thin like some girls… I was a size six the entire time. So what on Earth was I freaking out about?”
Jonah Hill
21 Jump Street star Jonah Hill hit headlines when he showed off his slimline figure – and huge new beard – in a series of eye-popping snaps as he headed out on errands around California.
The actor worked hard after 2015 film War Dogs to lost the 40lbs he’d gained for the role, and went on to lose even more weight with the help of Channing Tatum.
He explained: “I gained weight for this movie War Dogs, and then I wanted to get in better shape, so I called Channing Tatum and said, ‘Hey, if I ate less and go to a trainer, will I get in better shape?’
“And he said, ‘Yes, you dumb motherf***er, of course you will. It’s the simplest thing in the entire world’.”
In 2021, shirtless snaps of Jonah emerged, with him sharing: “I don’t think I ever took my shirt off in a pool until I was in my mid 30s even in front of family and friends.
“Probably would have happened sooner if my childhood insecurities weren’t exacerbated by years of public mockery about my body.”
He added: “I’m 37 and finally love and accept myself.”
Adele
Someone Like You hitmaker Adele shocked the world when she ditched 100 pounds – and looks totally unrecognisable from her former self.
The songstress has always been “body positive” but decided to change up her health goals by losing weight over the course of two years.
Adele lifted weights and started doing circuit training in order to shift the pounds, joking about her weight loss on SNL by addressing fans: “I know I look really, really different since you last saw me.
“But actually, because of all the Covid restrictions… I had to travel light and I could only bring half of me, and this is the half I chose.”
She told British Vogue of working with her personal trainers: “So I do my weights in the morning, then I normally hike or I box in the afternoon, and then I go and do my cardio at night.”
Billy Gardell
Mike and Molly star Billy Gardell was best known for playing Mike Biggs in the sitcom which featured the titular characters meeting at an Overeaters Anonymous group.
But he’s come a long way from his old character, and has even managed to reverse his Type 2 Diabetes diagnosis after losing so much weight.
Billy shed a whopping 150lbs and says his weight now “floats between 205 and 210” pounds (15 stone), down from 370lbs (26.4 stone).”
He’s managed to reverse his diabetes and dropped his resting heart rate from 113 BPM to just 68 after undergoing gastric bypass surgery two years ago.
He added: “I’m walking around pretty healthy these days. Of course, there’s always people online that, you know, when I was heavy, they were like, ‘You’re too heavy!’ And now it’s like, ‘Are you sick?’ Can I just walk the earth, please?”
Mama June
Honey Boo Boo’s mum June Shannon – AKA Mama June – lost a huge amount of weight for her reality show Mama June: From Not to Hot.
Although she’s gained a few pounds since the show aired, June still looks incredible, and went “cold turkey” to shed the weight, ditching her three to four Mountain Dew Code Reds per day after being told she needed to stop drinking cola by a neurologist.
With help from her trainer Kenya Crooks, June slimmed down to a size four and confessed: “I’ve worked my a** off working out, getting healthy.
