Britney Spears’ haunting smash hit Everytime appears to be about her ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake, as speculated by her fanbase.
The singer’s upcoming memoir made the bombshell revelation that the former couple fell pregnant when they were 19-years-old and according to the star, Justin “wasn’t happy” with the idea of becoming parents.
Britney claimed that Timberlake wanted an abortion and she eventually decided to go ahead with the process. Now, fans have a theory that her song Everytime is about their unborn child.

The song, which was released in 2002, is now seen as a response to Timberlake’s diss track Cry Me A River. Lyrics from Everytime include “I guess I need you, baby” and “seeing a face in her dreams,” while the music video shows Spears watching a baby being born.
After Britney’s recent revelation, fans have banded together to decipher the meaning behind Spears’ early 2000s hit single. Many have taken to social media to speculate.
One wrote: “That explains a lot, why the song [is] like a lullaby and she says: ‘My weakness caused you pain, and this song’s my sorry, I guess I need you baby.”
Another fan typed: “Oh, so Britney Spears’ Everytime wasn’t about Justin Timberlake but it was about the baby?! I am completely shook.”
Someone else added: “The meaning of this song completely changed for me.” Other comments read “this is so sad” and “heart is broken, poor Britney”.
Spears and Timberlake began dating when they were 17 and 18-years-old back in 1999 until they split up in 2002. She spoke about the abortion in her upcoming memoir Woman In Me and wrote: “I’m sure people will hate me for this, but I agreed not to have the baby. I don’t know if that was the right decision. If it had been left up to me alone, I never would have done it.”
“And yet Justin was so sure that he didn’t want to be a father,” before making a heartbreaking statement: “To this day, it’s one of the most agonising things I have ever experienced in my life.”
