The biggest controversies have included him getting arrested and charged – and many have not gone forgotten by the general public, particularly that involving his ex girlfriend Rihanna.

Although the artist continues to make and release music in 2023, many people still remember his downfalls.

Chris appeared on Good Morning America and was asked about the progress of his life since he assaulted Rihanna.

It was claimed the comment struck a nerve with the singer and after performing his song he stormed off the stage into his dressing room where he smashed a window with a chair and hair and makeup were forced to call security.

One of Chris’ most controversial moments includes the time he wore a full terrorist costume to a Halloween party.

He showed up to Rihanna’s 2012 Halloween party in the full kit, with the bullet casings wrapped around his robe too.

The photo received a lot of backlash and his mother, Joyce Hawkins, rushed to his defence writing: “Halloween is for fun nothing more than just fun. Get a life please.”

Car crash

In 2013 Chris’ car hit a Mercedes and the officer dealing with the incident claimed he refused to hand over his license and gave false insurance information.

Chris shut down these allegations and wrote on Twitter: “It’s not a hit and run if you get out of the car and exchange information,” later claiming the woman involved saw a “payday from Chris Brown” even though he “followed the procedures”.

Ultimately he came to a civil compromise with the victim but he was given an extra 1,000 hours of community service.

In 2013 Chris was arrested for felony assault following an altercation with two men outside a Washington DC hotel.

The victim was hospitalised and Brown had a charge reduced to a misdemeanour, 36 hours in jail and a stint in rehab for anger management.

A month into hit stint in rehab he attended a family session which saw him throw a rock at his mum’s car window.

He was immediately kicked out of rehab and sent to custody, spending 131 days in jail, for violent behaviour and probation violation.

A photographer at Aja Channelside was given a bloody lip after taking photos of Chris.

The artist had insisted on no photos being taken of him and after getting frustrated he “jumped over the couch and punched him in the face while he was cornered”.

Video footage emerged shortly after to support the claims.

Chris posted a photo of his three-year-old daughter, Royalty, playing with a Capuchin monkey – a restricted species.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife immediately launched an investigation and found the restricted species in his home without a permit.

While there was a possible jail term of six months, he was banned from owning any other primates and hit with a $35,000 fine (£27,800).

Chris Brown was given a restraining order following claims he punched her in the stomach and threatened to kill her.

A Los Angeles court granted the restraining order for Karrueche Tran in 2017.

She was said to apply for the restraining order after allegedly receiving threatening texts from the rapper.

She told the court: “He told a few people that he was gonna kill me. He said if no one else can have me, he’s gonna ‘take me out’.”
